Super Second Innings Awards

The submitter can submit an entry for himself/ herself or for any senior citizen he/ she knows who fits the criteria. The entry can be submitted in any of the below forms:

  1. A brief write-up
  2. A video with the talent being performed or a byte of the talent or inspirational work.

From all the talent & inspirational stories submitted, an esteemed jury member will select winners from each category who will receive the first ever Super Second Innings Awards.
Each submitter can submit only one entry in each category.

Contest period

The contest is period is between April 16, 2018 and September 30, 2018, both days inclusive.

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte

Dr. Prakash Baba Amte is a social worker from Maharashtra, India. He was awarded the Magsaysay Award for 'Community Leadership in 2008 for his philanthropic work.

He runs Lok Biradari Prakalp to provide community services to tribal people in rural Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Chhatisgarh. The project has grown into a hospital, residential school and an orphanage for injured wild animals.

Dr. Amte is a M.B.B.S. graduate by profession but the spectrum of activities he carries out ranges from performing complex surgeries, fractures, and simple eye surgeries. He has first-hand experience in hand rearing of wild-life animals from leopards to huge bears, even the deadliest snakes have been befriended by him. He heads an rare informal court where the adivasis from far away come out of love and trust that justice will be granted. The most unusual being repairing watches and radios of the adivasis which he still continues to do.

Manju Latha Kalanidhi

Manju Latha Kalanidhi is the inventor of the Rice Bucket challenge - an innovative take on the Ice Bucket challenge. While the original Ice Bucket Challenge involved participants pouring a bucket of ice over their heads and/or donating to the ALS Association, the Rice Bucket Challenge involved donating a bucket of rice to a poor person or family. Thanks to her initiative, more than 2 lakh kg of rice has been donated, so far.

Brahmanand S Siingh

Brahmanand S Siingh is an award-winning filmmaker (producer-director) and writer based out of Mumbai. Recognised for his widely acclaimed, Pancham Unmixed, a National Award winning film on legendary music composer, RD Burman which has collected countless awards and accolades and which continues to enjoy its critical acclaim and popular following across distribution platforms, and for many other films like Ragpickers; Uncaging the Body, A Burden of Love; Ashgari Bai, Riding on a Sunbeam, Through Our Eyes and so on. Siingh often brings out an insightful, exploring and reflective quality in the subjects that excite him, bringing out its core essence in a soulful and captivating manner.

Other than a feature-length biographical film, Kaagaz Ki Kashti (Paperboat) on ghazal maestro, Jagjit Singh and developing a feature project, Jhalki … Ek Aur Bachpan (A Different Childhood) the International buzz for which is already considered very high, he has ventured into producing a path-breaking series of inspirational, feature-length biographies set to change the way biographies are viewed in this country.
